Το λατίνι είναι ένα τριγωνικό πανί (ιστίο) που έχει χρησιμοποιηθεί, με παραλλαγές, σε αλιευτικά, σπογγαλιευτικά και μεταφορικά σκάφη στη Μεσόγειο και σε άλλες περιοχές. Πριν από τα μέσα του 19ου αιώνα ήταν επίσης διαδεδομένη η χρήση του σε καταδρομικά, πειρατικά και πολεμικά. Απεικονίζεται σε πολλές παραστάσεις της βυζαντινής εποχής και σε λιγότερες από την ύστερη αρχαιότητα στη Μεσόγειο. Σήμερα χρησιμοποιείται για αναψυχή σε βάρκες και καΐκια, όπως επίσης και στο ναυτοπροσκοπισμό σε όλο το Αιγαίο και το Ιόνιο.

The art of traditional sailing with a lateen sail (lateen rig, triangular sail)
The lateen is a triangular sail (istío) that has been used, with variations, on fishing, sponge-fishing and transport vessels in the Mediterranean and other regions. Before the mid-19th century, it was also a common feature of cruisers, pirate vessels, and warships. It is depicted in numerous Byzantine-era artworks and, to a lesser extent, in those of Late Antiquity in the Mediterranean. Nowadays, it is popular for recreational boats and caïques and for sea scouting throughout the Aegean and Ionian Seas.
The element was inscribed in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece in 2025.
